Fisheries Ecolabel Guidelines
MSC,ASC, GAPBAPThere are many different fisheries eco-label certifications, but they are all based on three guidelines: the FAO's "Code of Conduct for Responsible Fisheries" (1995), "International Guidelines for Marine Fisheries Eco-Label Certification Schemes" (2005), and "Certification Schemes for Aquaculture and Inland Fisheries" (2011).
Although each guideline is not legally binding, it does indicate the standards that certification systems must follow. Since these guidelines were created, more than 140 labels have been created,Global Sustainable Seafood Initiative (GSSI)These guidelines are now accepted by the GSSI and they are used to approve certification schemes.
This is an important guideline that continues to show the key points that should always be kept in mind when promoting sustainable seafood.
