BSP Certification
BSP (Best Seafood Practices) certification is a third-party certification program that ensures that wild seafood is caught and processed ethically and that the health and safety of all workers in the supply chain is ensured.
It is run by the Global Seafood Alliance, which works to ensure food safety, social and environmental responsibility, and animal health and welfare through BSP certification.

BSP certification consists of the RFVS (Responsible Fishing Vessel Standard) and the SPS (Seafood Processing Standard).
The RFVS standard is based on two basic principles: "ship management and safety system" and "seafarers' rights, safety and health"(*2). This certification, which has a strong focus on protecting the human rights of seafarers, is based on the Fisheries Labor Convention and other international conventions. Specifically, it requires that seafarers receive proper training, work in a safe environment, and have guaranteed wages, meals and rest periods.
The SPS standard guarantees food safety in processing plants and is GFSI (Global Food Safety Initiative) and GSCP (Global Social Compliance Program) compliant, providing assurance on food safety, environmental responsibility, animal health and welfare, and employee health and safety(*2).
In addition, the standards for BSP certification are determined by the Standards Oversight Committee (SOC), which is made up of members representing a wide range of stakeholders, including industry associations, academic institutions, and non-governmental organizations.
This standard meets more than 85% of the requirements of the Publicly Available Specification (PAS), a supply chain risk management standard for IUU fishing, etc.(*2)
